![]() ![]() Weight: 11.1kg (subwoofer), 0.72kg x 2 (detachable surround speakers), 3. Ports: HDMI input, HDMI (eARC), Optical, Ethernet While the $1,799 JBL Bar 9.1 is more expensive than a similar wired home theatre system, the convenience of its wireless speakers is definitely worth the price for some.ĭetachable wireless speakers are convenient AGAINST In short, the JBL Bar 9.1 is great for those who want the immersion of the cinema in their homes, but it is only adequate for music. The mids can also sound muddy and not as distinct as I would have liked. But the audio seems to come primarily from the soundbar with minimal input from the rear surround speakers. Vocals sounded clear enough during music playback. Nor does it have any equaliser settings to tweak the balance for different use cases and genres. ![]() The JBL Bar 9.1 does not have any dialogue enhancement feature. Dialogue often plays second fiddle to the loud and bombastic effects and soundtrack. The sound effects seem to come from all around me. Explosions and other effects, though, are punchy.īoosting the feeling of being immersed in a movie are the Dolby Atmos effects produced by the upfiring speakers. Anything higher than level three (out of five) is too much for my taste. The bass from the downfiring wireless subwoofer is powerful enough to rattle the glass cabinets in my living room. The remote control also lets you adjust the intensity of the bass, the Atmos effects and the rear surround sound. Ideally, you want to place the wireless speakers behind your couch. The wireless speakers are calibrated using a sound test with the remote control. It sucks since I really enjoy the surround option of the JBL Bar and can't justify buying satellite speaker due to space restrictions.Setting up the soundbar is straightforward. I'm debating returning the JBL bar and switching to a Samsung HW-Q900T which seems to have a distinct input mode between HDMI and Digital, unlike the JBL Bar. I had no problem at all with this setup since I was able to change the input on the sound bar from AUX to Digital IN depending on the content I listened to. On this model, the TV was connected to the sound bar via optical and the turntable was connected via 3.5mm aux. The previous bar I had was a 2013 Samsung entry model. That said, the Bose is better built, with built-in voice assistant capabilities. It has a better surrounds performance and reproduces a more extended low-bass. The JBL comes with a dedicated sub and satellites. Therefore, I can't listen to my TV via HDMI and my turntable via optical, unless I disconnect the HDMI eARC to force the sound bar to use optical.ĭoes anyone know how I can listen to different output without having to disconnect the HDMI eARC from the bar each time I want to listen to my turntable? The JBL Bar 9.1 is better than the standalone Bose Smart Soundbar 900. However, in the owner manual, it says that HDMI is prioritised over optical and both are linked to the TV input. Since the JBL Bar 9.1 had an HDMI eARC and optical input, I thought that I would be able to switch between the HDMI and Optical output. Being in an apartment, I don't have much space and want to connect my turntable to my sound bar (I know, not ideal). ![]() Long story short, I just bought the JBL Bar 9.1 to upgrade my sound system.
